Varicose Veins: Cause, Symptom,Treatment, During Pregnancy Vaginal Varicose Vein, Natural Treatment Varicose Vein

Many people suffer from varicose veins, but women suffer from them more than do men.  While there are some treatment options available to actually get rid of the varicose veins, most people simply use self-care methods at home to relieve the symptoms of them.

What Are Varicose Veins?

The World Wide Web offers a superb definition of what a varicose vein is; “A condition in which a vein, most often in the legs, becomes permanently enlarged, twisted, and painful.  This may be caused by valves in the vein that don’t work properly or by weakness in the vein walls.”

Causes

The medical community has been unable to pinpoint an exact cause of varicose veins, but they have determined several factors that can play a role in their development; damaged valves within the veins are to blame, and since the defective valves disrupt the normal flow of blood, bulging of the vein occurs.  Doctors also believe that some people are predisposed to varicose veins due to a family history of them.  Other people are born with abnormalities of the vein walls, and this will, in later years, cause varicose veins.  Pregnant are also more prone to develop varicose veins, as are those who’s chosen career requires them to remain seated for the better part of the work day.

Symptoms

While many people with varicose veins never have any symptoms, there are some people have experience many signs and symptoms associated with varicose veins.  Some of the signs and symptoms are as follows:

  • Legs often will ache.
  • Legs may itch or feel heavy.
  • Leg cramps late at night.
  • Severe pain upon standing.
  • Affected vein may be red and inflamed.

Treatment

Before seeking medical advice, or while waiting for an appointment with the physician, there are many things that can be done ay home to relieve the symptoms of varicose veins.  Some of the actions that can be taken at home are as follows;

  • Elevating the legs as much as possible.
  • Wearing compression stockings or hose.
  • Avoid consuming alcohol.
  • Do not wear garments such as girdles or tight belts.
  • Do not cross legs when in a sitting position.
  • Implement a good walk into your daily routine.

Besides these self-care tips, there are also medical treatments available.

  • Surgery-this is reserved for the most severe cases of varicose veins, for those people who have had no success with self-care remedies.
  • Ligation-a small incision is made and the varicose vein is tied off so that it can no longer receive any blood flow.
  • Avulsion-many tiny incisions are made and the varicose vein is completely removed.

Even after surgery is performed, new varicose veins can appear, and since any surgery carries with it risks, most sufferers depend on self-care treatments to manage their varicose veins.

For most people, varicose veins are simply a cosmetic issue.  After all, no one likes to have their legs covered in unsightly, bulging veins.  There are some cosmetic procedures that are available that make varicose veins less noticeable, but this, at best, only a temporary solution, as new varicose veins are sure to develop.  Procedures can be quite expensive, and in the long run usually aren’t worth the risk, time, and money involved.

If you suffer from varicose veins, there is no reason to be embarrassed, as thousands and thousands of people are affected by this very same condition.  Talk to your physician about what they think the best course of treatment would be for you’ there are many options available, and one that is sure to work for you.
