Respiratory Health: What Type of Health Problems Occur in the Respiratory SystemRespiratory health, what is it and how do you maintain it. Preserving your respiratory health has to do with a lot of factor and some are out of your control like air pollution. Take a deep breath and then let it out. That is your respiratory system at work. Okay, takes another deep breathe, feel it? You are taking air through your mouth and nasal passages. Feel your diagram compress, your throat tighten up, this is courtesy or your windpipe, and then there is your lungs taking it all in. All these organs, from your nose to your lungs, all are part of your respiratory system. How does your respiratory system work? The simplest definition is that you’re respiratory system helps you breathe. The more complicated explanation is that your respiratory system tries to give your body what it needs while at the same time trying to extract things from your body that could cause you harm. For example your cells need oxygen so when your take a breath your respiratory system makes sure that your cells get what they need. What your body does not need is carbon dioxide so your respiratory system tries to remove it from your system in the form of waste. The fact is your respiratory health is vitally important to you because if your can’t breath, well then you will be died. But if you are breathing badly, you will live but the quality of your life will be diminished greatly. These are the respiratory problems you can haveAsthma is a chronic disease but one many people live it. It is the result of having overly sensitive air passages. Bronchitis comes in two forms acute or chronic. Chronic Bronchitis is a mild form of the disease , which can lasts from a couple of months up to a couple of years. Acute Bronchitis stays with a person for less time but persons symptoms more serious. It is the result of an irritation to your bronchial tubes. Emphysema, is the result of your lungs losing their shape (elasticity). Here is how it works. For example, assume that your lungs are a balloon, you breath in air your lungs expand, you exhale your lungs deflate. Think of blowing air into a balloon, you hold the end of the balloon together with your fingers to keep the air in. When you let it go and the air comes out then you cut off the air by holding the ends together with your fingers to hold the ends together again. That is how your lungs work when you have emphysema, you exhale but your alveoli (air sacs) have lost their shape and are like your fingers on the balloon cutting off your air. Pulmonary Edema, here is how it works, if your lungs is a balloon and you feel it up with water you can have a fun water balloon fight. If your lungs fill up with fluid then you will have major breathing difficulties, and in all probability be coughing up blood. Pulmonary Embolism is the result of a blood clot getting itself stuck inside of the cavity of your pulmonary artery. It is almost like a pipe drain getting clog up with scum. Pneumonia, there are three types of pneumonia. If you are like the rest of us that may come as a surprise. There is Bacterial Pneumonia , which is caused by some form of bacteria. There is Viral Pneumonia , which is caused by some form of viral infection. Lastly, there is Chemical Pneumonia , which is caused by some form of (you guessed it) chemicals. Some of us have had pneumonia and know what it feels like to have the overwhelming tiredness and if we try to walk the feeling of exhaustion and inability to breath well. Now imagine having that feeling on an ongoing basis. FactsThe fact is that most common respiratory problems are because of two things: smoking and air pollution. You can maintain your respiratory health to a certain extent like don’t smoke. Unfortunately, there are a lot more outside of your control like air pollution. The most known air pollutants are ozone, particular matter, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide and lead. There are laws to help to minimize the amount of air pollutants which can be released into the air, but if there is once piece of advice that could help a person preserve their respiratory health, it would be eat right, exercise and learn to deal with your stress well. Lastly, make sure your personal space is clean, wash your hands after going to the bathroom, keep bathroom clean and as your mother said, don’t put your mouth over something that previously someone else has put their mouth on, you don’t know where they been.
