Morning Sickness: Pregnancy Morning Sickness, Sign, Cause, Symptoms and Treatment, How to Prevent Morning Sickness

Morning sickness is the most common symptom associated with pregnancy

The most common symptom that heralds a pregnancy is the morning sickness. Though it is associated with good news, it actually is a miserable feeling and for many unfortunate women it does not stay limited only to the morning but can be experience throughout the day. Some women experience the morning sickness only in the first trimester while some have it throughout the period of pregnancy, while some others have it in the last trimester.  It does not matter when it occurs; the feeling is equally devastating whenever it occurs.

How bad is the morning sickness symptom?

Many women feel acutely nauseous only in the morning or immediately after they wake up from sleep, after which they feel completely normal. Sometime the nausea turns into bouts of vomiting and high sensitivity to different types of smells. However, it has been observed that in majority of cases the morning sickness will disappear as if by magic after the completion of the third month of pregnancy.

What if a woman is pregnant but does not experience morning sickness?

There is actually no hard and fast rule saying that all women who are pregnant should experience morning sickness. Some women feel exceptionally well from the beginning to the end of their pregnancy and that is very normal too. On the other hand there are women who are sick and miserable through out the course of the pregnancy – and that is normal too. The symptoms will vary from woman to woman; he doctor will be the best person to tell you if everything is normal, or it needs medical intervention.

What are the causes of morning sickness?

Unfortunately, there is no accurate answer to this question. In medical terms, it is well known that pregnancy brings about a high level of hormone production in the body during the first trimester. It is believed that the morning sickness has a great deal to do with the sudden surge of hormones in the blood, but it has not been conclusively proved by any of the research studies undertaken on this topic.

The main accused is believed to be progesterone which is also known to have a softening effect on the muscles of the body. It is theorized that the progesterone thus produced softens the muscles of the stomach and intestine causing them to reverse the movement of the food, hence causing nausea and vomiting.

Another popular theory widely supported by the doctors world over is that the pregnancy causes high build-up of hCG or human chorionic gonadotopin which can be the cause of the nauseous feeling you experience. The hCG will be produced in high quantity till about the 12th week, after which it stabilizes and starts decreasing. This is why, it is believed, women cease to feel the morning sickness exactly after the third month of the pregnancy.

Morning sickness is still a mystery

There are a lot of theories on the hows and whys of the morning sickness during pregnancy. In most cases it is considered as a common symptom. However, when the morning sickness escalates to vomiting and dehydration then it is treated symptomatically by the doctor. In most cases it disappears by itself after the completion of the third month.

In many cases it was found that if the woman has a biscuit or two as soon as she wakes up, the morning sickness is reduced to a large extent. In other cases the doctor prescribes mild anti-vomiting medication so the would-be-mother can feel as normal as possible without harming the fetus.

Generally speaking, morning sickness though it is a terrible affliction, it is actually welcomes by the would-be mothers because it symbolizes pregnancy.
