Hysterectomy: Woman Health HysterectomyHysterectomy is a scary word for many women. Unfortunately, a number of women will have to face the prospect of having one, and consequently ignorant about the facts surrounding hysterectomy. Not many women knows what exactly a hysterectomy is. Ignorance may be bliss but for a number of women it could be dangerous when they find themselves face with the prospect of going under the knife for a hysterectomy. At that stage, a woman will be mental and physically vunerable, unable to start to ask the right questions or even have the knowledge to ask the right questions. Now is the time to get information on hysterectomy and not when you are right in the middle of finding out you may need one. Ignorance is not bliss it is just cowardly. The operationWhen a woman is going to have a hysterectomy the doctor is going to remove the woman's uterus. A woman fallopian tubes, ovaries and cervix may have to be removed also. All these things are a part of a woman reproduction organs. These organs are where a woman produces a child, gets her sex hormones, her period is produced. Once these organs are removed during a hysterectomy a woman will be unable to have children and the periods with stop. Total hysterectomyA total hysterectomy occurs usually in woman with ovarian cancer, endomtriosis, and uterine fibroids. Most people who have total hysterctomies are woman with ovarian cancer. This type of cancer usually have no symptoms in the beginning which is why it goes undetected for so long. Women can have some discomfort in the pelvic region, unexplained gas, pain during sex, and some slight pain and swelling in their abdomen but these symptoms may have nothing to do with having ovarian cancer. Endometeriosis is when a woman's uterus is lined with tissue. The tissue is call endometrium it grows outside the uterus wall which indicates to a womans body that she is pregant, when the women does not get pregnant the lining sheds and the wall of her uterus bleeds. This bleeding is seperate from the bleeding a woman has during her period but it occurs at the same time. Fibroids is when a woman fibroids grow larger than her other organs causing discomfort, or they grow rapidly, or causes abnormal bleeding. A total hysterectomy involves the complete removal of a woman's cervix and uterus. Partial hysterectomyA partial hysterectomy is ususally only done on women who need to have only their uterine fibroids removed. The fact is that a partial hysterectomy can be beneficial in some ways to women even if only in small ones. The partial hysterecomy is easier to do then a total hysterecomy, and it leaves a woman's cervix intact which is what helps a woman to achieve an orgasm. The bad part is that a partial hysterectomy can leave a woman vulnerable to cervical cancer, and so yearly papsmears are a must. Radical hysterectomyThis is the most disturbing of the hysterectomies and it is called radical for a reason. The surgery is done when a woman has cervix or uterus cancer. The cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes, the upper thirds of the vagina, the tissues around the cervix, pelvic lymph glands and sometimes the ovaries are removed. That is a lot for any woman to lose and it will effect how they few themselves for a long time. However, when your life hangs in the balance the instinct is to survive and what cost? Each and every woman has to decide for themselves is the cost is worth it. What others have contributed to this page? No contribution yet. Be the first one to send your contribution for this page.
