Gastrointestinal Health: Diseases, Problems and DisordersWhen we talk about gastrointestinal health we are talking about your gastrointestinal tract. When we talk about your gastrointestinal tract, we are talking about what you eat and how it moves through your body? What is good gastrointestional health and how can you maintain it? What exactly is gastrointestinal health? It is hard to put into words but we have all experience nauseous, vomitting, cramping in the stomach, and diarrhea. This is your gastrointestinal tract telling you that something is wrong. This article will try to explain what exactly is the basis for good gastrointestinal health. Gastrointestinal.. what is it exactly? Gastrointestinal health starts with a person's digestive system called the digestive tract. A persons digestive system consists of the mouth, esophagus, small and large intestines. As you chew your food, your salvia acts as a digestive aid, along with your teeth, in helping to break down your food. While your esophagus acts like a pipe directing your food to your stomach. The food is then released into your small and large intestines. The small and large intestines function in different ways.. When the digestive process is completed the small intestines helps to absorbed the nutrients in your blood. The large intestine is your colon. The colon helps to remove water from the food you have digested which then becomes solid waste, the thing we rid ourselves of when we go to the bathroom. Things that can go wrong Things can go very wrong with the digestive tract, especially if you are not eating right. One symptom is problematic bowel movements. If while having a bowel movement you are experiencing pain, cramping, and your stools look abnormal, this is a good sign that something is wrong with your gastronintestinal tract. Constipation is described as having difficult bowel movements. The symptoms, not having bowels movement at the rate you should, more than two or three times a week is normal, or you are having incomplete ones.. Next, is IBS, Irritable bowel syndrome. Symptoms of IBS are any type of pain, cramps, gas, bloating when going to the bathromm; frequency in your bowel movements and stools appearance has changed. When it comes to your gastrointestinal health there are problems that only can be fixed by surgery. There are a whole host of anal disorders for example like hemorrhoids. As well as anal fissures, which are classified as a split in your anal opening. A lot of things can go wrong when it comes to your gastointestinal health, you can get infections in your anus, abscess, and infections. If whatever is coming out of your body seems odd, unusual or deviates from normal bowel movements for you then there may be a problem. Lastly, there is Colon Cancer which surprisingly is the second largest form of cancer in the U.S . Colon cancer can be termed as a quiet disease, in the beginning your body will no symtoms. This is why it is important to be screened regularly for the disease once you reach the age of 50. What you can do? The truth is eating right is the first step to good gastrointestinal health. Of course, there are problems that can arise within your body that have little or nothing to do with eating right but for the most part it is.
